What a visit actually includes
The full driveway surface, the front walk to the door, and a path wide enough to reach the mailbox. We back-drag the apron rather than pushing everything into a berm across the garage door — that berm is the single most common complaint we hear about whoever came before us.
What it does not include: decks, roofs, and hauling snow off site. Those are separate trades with separate equipment, and quoting them inside a $75 visit would mean doing one of them badly.

Some companies run a one-inch residential trigger. That is not generosity. At a per-visit rate, a lower trigger means more billable visits in a season of frequent light snow, and the company setting the trigger is the one who benefits from where it lands. Ask any contractor what their trigger is and how they bill against it. If the answer is vague, the vagueness is the product.
Salt stops working and nobody tells you when
Rock salt is sodium chloride. Its practical working limit is about 15 °F — it slows badly below 20 and does effectively nothing below 15. Macomb County spends real stretches of January under that line.
At 8 °F the honest options are calcium chloride, which stays active near −25 °F and costs several times more per pound, or mechanical clearing and patience. We will tell you which you are getting.
