The software behind a snow company that shows up
Most plow operations run a storm on memory, a spreadsheet and a group text. We built our own dispatch platform instead, because reliability at 4 a.m. is a systems problem, not a willpower problem.
Why we built our own
Off-the-shelf field-service apps are built for every trade at once: a plumber with four appointments, a painter with one job for a week. A snowstorm is the opposite. Every customer needs service at the same time, at night, on a deadline, and the weather decides when the clock starts.
So we had a platform custom-built for exactly that. It knows which properties are active this season, what order to drive them in, what the trigger is, who has opted in to texts, and what happened at every stop. When the phone rings at 5 a.m., whoever answers can see the answer.
Every stop, in order, with a record of what happened
This is the heart of the system. Crews work the list in driving order and every stop ends in one of two states: done, with the time, or skipped, with the reason.
Routes built before the storm
Active properties are routed in driving order ahead of the season, so the first flake starts a dispatch instead of a phone tree.
Done means timestamped
Marking a stop done records the time automatically. Nobody reconstructs a storm from memory the next afternoon.
Photos and notes on the visit
Crews can attach photos and notes to a visit record: a blocked apron, a damaged mailbox found on arrival, an icy step that needs a second look.
Skips are never silent
A skip needs a reason. The office sees it on the board, the client gets a text, and the stop goes back on the list.
- 01 Residential2-car drive + front walk Done 4:58 AM
- 02 Medical office42 stalls, ADA spaces first Done 5:07 AM
- 03 Residential3-car + turnaround Done 5:15 AM
- 04 Residentialcorner lot, both walks Skipped: car on apron
- 05 Retail plazafire lane and entries Done 5:31 AM
- 06 Residentiallong gravel drive Done 5:40 AM
- 07 Church lotclear before 7 a.m. Done 5:52 AM
- 08 Condo row6 units + mailbox pad Done 6:04 AM
Stop 04 flagged. A car was parked across the apron. The skip and the reason are on the board, the office texts the client, and the crew comes back after the route.
Communication is the service
When your route starts, you hear from us. When you text back, a person reads it. That sounds basic, and it is exactly where most snow companies fail.
One message to the whole route
Storm-start texts go to every client on a route at once, so nobody sits at the window wondering whether anyone is coming.
Replies land in one inbox
Your reply arrives attached to your account and property, so whoever answers already knows where you are on the route.
Opt-in, with STOP always working
We text numbers that agreed to it at signup or quote. Every message carries STOP, and opted-out numbers are skipped automatically.
Storm update: 2.6″ down in Clinton Twp and still falling. You’re on tonight’s route and crews are rolling now. Reply STOP to opt out.
If it keeps coming after we clear you, we come back. No need to call.
Perfect. I have to be out by 6:15 for work 🙏
Got it. It’s on your stop notes for the crew. ✓
From first flake to last stop
The same four steps on every route, every storm.
Trigger
Snowfall passes 2″ (1″ commercial). Every active property is already routed, so nobody has to call.
Broadcast
Clients on the route get a storm text: crews are rolling, and if it keeps coming, the route runs again.
Clear and record
Crews mark each stop done or skipped as they go. Done carries the time; skipped carries the reason.
Follow up
Skips get a text and a return visit. Replies are answered by a person with your account in front of them.

What we will not pretend
No live truck map and no countdown clock. On a storm night an ETA is a guess, and we would rather tell you what we know than show you a number designed to look precise.
No promise that you will be first. Routes run in driving order, so somebody is first and somebody is last, and a company promising everyone the front of the line is about to disappoint most of them. How routes actually work explains the rest.
And no software replaces a crew that shows up. The platform exists so that people who do show up never lose track of a stop, a skip or a message. That is the whole point.
Questions about how our system works
Do you track your trucks with GPS so I can watch them?
No, and that is deliberate. A live dot and a countdown look impressive, but on a storm night an ETA is a guess, and a wrong guess at 5 a.m. is worse than none. What you get instead is a text when your route starts, a person who answers when you text back, and a recorded time when your stop is done.
Do I need to download an app?
No. Storm updates arrive as ordinary text messages, and the client portal is a web page that works on any phone. There is nothing to install and no password to remember for the texts.
Can I text you back?
Yes. Replies land in the inbox our office works from, attached to your account, so whoever answers can see your property and your route. Tell us about a parked car, a gate code or a shift you have to make.
What can I see in the client portal?
Your requests, quotes, upcoming and past visits, and invoices, plus a way to contact us. Estimates can be downloaded as a PDF at any time.
Will you share my phone number or spam me?
No. We text numbers that agreed to it when they signed up or requested a quote, every message carries STOP to opt out, and we do not sell or share numbers. Details are in our privacy policy.
Do commercial clients get service records?
Yes. Every completed stop carries its recorded time, and skipped stops carry the reason. Commercial clients can request the record for their property for any date, which is what a property manager or an insurer needs when a slip-and-fall claim shows up months later.
