How New Haven handles snow: New Haven’s Department of Public Works starts plowing village streets once 3 inches or more has accumulated and begins salting major streets and the areas around schools after 1 inch. Residents are asked not to shovel or blow snow back into the street, to clear the lump of snow at the end of the driveway without pushing it into the road, and to keep hydrants in front of their homes clear. Village ordinance bars weekday parking on residential streets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. whenever snow or ice is on the ground, and all residential street parking during a declared snow emergency.
