Under Sec. 32-8, the occupant, or the owner of an empty lot, must clear adjoining sidewalks within 12 hours after snow or ice stops falling in daylight, or by 9 p.m. the next day if it stopped overnight. Violations carry civil fines up to $500, and if a walk is still not cleared 24 hours after a ticket, the village may clear it and bill the property. Snow from private property may not be dumped on a road, alley or sidewalk unless the village is paid to remove it (Sec. 31-17).
