Fall cleanup and leaf removal in Macomb County
Leaves off the lawn and out of the beds before the first snow pins them down for the winter. Quoted after a look at your yard, with the scope and the leaf plan in writing.
A fall cleanup, item by item
Every quote names which of these your yard gets, so you know exactly what you are paying for before anyone starts a blower.
Leaves off the lawn
Leaves blown and raked out of the turf, along fences and out of corners, so nothing sits matted on the grass under the first snow.
Beds and borders cleared
Leaves and debris pulled out of beds, from under shrubs and along foundations, where they hold moisture against siding and attract rodents.
The right plants cut back
Diseased or flopped perennial foliage cut back and annuals pulled. Healthy seed heads and stems that shelter pollinators can stay if you want them to.
A final mow
A last cut at a normal height, which leaves the lawn tidy for winter without scalping it.
Leaves handled your community’s way
Bagged in paper yard-waste bags, set in a marked can or cart, or mulched into the lawn. The quote says which, before we start.
Why the leaves should be gone before the snow
A layer of leaves left on the lawn mats down once it is wet and snowed on. Turf under a matted layer through a Michigan winter comes out of the snow thin and prone to snow mold, and the spring repair costs more than the fall cleanup would have. Leaves in beds hold moisture against foundations and siding, and leaves blown into the street end up in storm drains, which in Macomb County drain untreated toward Lake St. Clair.
There is also a calendar reason. At Detroit Metro Airport, the official station for the region, the median first fall freeze over the last 30 years is October 29 and the median first snow of two inches or more is December 12. Most communities in the county end curbside yard waste pickup between late November and mid-December. Once that last pickup passes, bagged leaves sit at the curb until spring.
When to book
Late October through November, after most of your trees have dropped and before your community’s last yard waste pickup. If you are under oaks, which hold their leaves late, plan on the second half of November or a second pass. Booking early holds a date; the crew comes when the yard is actually ready, not on a date picked in September.
How we price a fall cleanup
We do not publish a single fall cleanup price, because two yards with the same lot size can be hours apart. What moves the number:
- Leaf volume. The number and size of mature trees on and next to the property matters more than lot size.
- Beds. Long foundation beds and borders take hand work that open lawn does not.
- Where the leaves go. Bagging for curbside pickup takes longer than mulching leaves into the lawn.
- Access. Gates, slopes and fenced backyards change how fast the work goes.
- One pass or two. Late-dropping trees can mean a second visit, and the quote says so if it does.

What we do not do
We do not apply fertilizer, weed control or any other product, and we do not do tree work, gutters or any roof work. If your yard needs one of those, we will say so and suggest you call a company that specializes in it.
Where we work
We quote fall cleanups in the Macomb County communities where we already run snow routes, which is all 26 of them. A yard well away from the rest of the day’s work may get a later date in a busy week, and we tell you that when we quote.

Checked October 2026 against each community’s website, ordinance code, 2026 calendar or hauler page; sources are on each community page and in our leaf pickup guide. Since 1995, Michigan has banned yard clippings from landfills; today Part 115 of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act bars delivering more than a de minimis amount of yard waste to a landfill (MCL 324.11514), which is why leaves and grass must go out separately from trash.
Straight answers
When should I schedule a fall cleanup in Macomb County?
Late October through November, once most of your trees have dropped and before your community’s last curbside yard waste pickup, which ends between late November and mid-December in most of the county. At Detroit Metro Airport the median first freeze is October 29 and the median first two-inch snow is December 12, so the window closes quickly.
Where do the leaves go?
That is set on the quote before we start, following your community’s yard-waste rules. Most Macomb County communities collect leaves at the curb in paper yard-waste bags or a marked can or cart on trash day, and state law keeps yard waste out of household trash. Some yards can take their leaves mulched into the lawn instead.
Is one cleanup enough?
For most yards, yes, if it happens after the trees have dropped. Oaks and some other trees hold their leaves into late fall, so a yard under them may need a second pass. If yours looks like one, the quote says so up front rather than surprising you later.
Do you clean gutters or apply fertilizer?
No. We do not do gutters or any roof work, and we do not apply fertilizer, weed control or any other product. Fall cleanup is leaves, beds, cutbacks and the final mow.
Do you plow too?
Yes. Fall cleanup is a good time to get on a snow route: past a 2-inch trigger you are dispatched automatically, and you get a text when your route starts. See residential snow removal.
